If you've already set goals for metrics in your account, you may have also noticed alerts.
Alerts are automatic notifications to any set destination when a certain metric moves out of an acceptable range.
To set an alert for a metric, flip the block that contains that metric and select "Set Goals"
If setting a new goal or alert, you should now see it at the bottom of the goal/alerts list.
Since alerts are based off of your goal range, you must first establish the Good/Bad range for this metric.
Type a metric value into the Good/Bad columns, then specify which metric movement is good vs bad by clicking on the arrows. For example, an expense moving down is good, while a revenue line moving down is bad. Make sure these are set before moving on to setting your alert.
Setting an alert destination
To set an alert, you must first establish a destination to set alerts to. Alert destinations can be:
- Email: setup an email address to have alerts sent to
- Slack: setup a Slack channel to have alerts posted in
- SMS: setup a phone number to have text message alerts sent to
To set a destination, click the grey "+" icon next to your goal. This will pop up a modal to create a new destination.
Click "Create New Destination" and select which endpoint you would like to establish.
For this example we will use email.
After selecting email, enter the destination name and the email address and click "Add Endpoint"
This will send an automatic confirmation email, asking the recipient to opt-in to future alerts. After the user has opted-in, you can add this alert destination to any metric goal.
Adding an alert to a metric goal
Now that you have established your alert destinations, when you select the grey "+" symbol next to any goal, you can select as many destinations as you require. Next time this metric moves out of the acceptable range, you will receive alerts to that destination.
